I’m choosing to take the incident pictured here as some obscure predictor of remarkably good luck that’s about to come my way.

Our kids just came back from a trip. On the way home from the airport, we stopped off at Strut in Greenwood to see my photography show, which opened while the kids were gone.

We looked over the photos. We even bought some shoes.

On the way out, my wife grabbed a tiny version of her favorite photo from the show. She held it loosely — a fact that will matter by the end of the next paragraph.

I walked on ahead to give our dog a chance to do whatever might need to be done. He pooped. He peed. It was at this point that my wife caught up to me, said something, gestured, lost her grip on the tiny photo, and dropped the photo directly into the fresh puddle of dog pee.

So now, in the 7500 block of Greenwood Ave. here in Seattle, there is a street trash can that contains a black plastic bag that holds one dog turd and one wet photo.

That’s got to be good luck, right?
