Google may need to refine its ad layout a bit. I just stopped by my most recent HuffPost and came across what appears to be a General Motors ad illustrated with a fake photo of President Obama being booked into jail.
This would be an astonishing move by G.M. The company filed for bankruptcy this week. According to the New York Times, Obama’s “auto task force calls for G.M. to receive $30.1 billion in federal aid, in addition to the $19.4 billion it has already received.”
My first thought was that the G.M. web site in the ad was not a real G.M. site at all. But I clicked the link and it seems to be the real thing. So then I went back to the ad and clicked on the fake booking photo. That sent me to a separate site for a T-shirt company. So what we’ve got here is a case of two separate ads. To my eye, they look like one ad. Maybe it’s just me. Or, as I said, maybe the layout needs some fine-tuning.
And yes, if you look immediately above this post you will see Google ads. Hopefully, pointing out this isolated problem will not make those ads disappear.
